The Taylor Law
On September 1, 1967 the Taylor Law was enacted. Also known as Article 14 of Civil Service Law, it gave public employees:
- the right to establish, join and participate in a union
- the right to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement (also known as a contract).
The Taylor Law allowed employees to be placed into bargaining units most appropriate to their titles and type of work performed. Unions representing those units are free to negotiate for improved benefits and working conditions.
