Steward Elections

Members of PEF who are interested in becoming a union steward should check with their division to be sure a vacancy exists or if an election is scheduled. Once this is confirmed, the member may begin to collect signatures from other PEF members in their constituency on an official nominating petition. The petition is sent to the main offices of PEF to have the signatures verified.

After signature verification, if the candidate is unopposed, he or she can be elected by acclimation. If there is more than one candidate for union steward, members will elect the best candidate by majority vote by mail-in ballot. A steward is elected for a period of one to three years depending on the language found in the Divisions constitution.
