Conclude the Conversation Positively and Definitively
An active listener knows how to end a conversation politely and assertively. If further action is required on what has been said, it’s important to say:
- what actions you will take
- what actions you expect the member to take
- when you might re-visit your conversation to assess progress
For example:
Keisha: "Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It really helps when I know what the members are thinking! I’m going to call Dr. Hooks tomorrow; why don’t you talk to the other nurses on your shift. Then let’s meet here again on Friday to review what we’ve learned."
