Listening Is a Sign of Respect

Photo of woman, listening to a colleagueListening doesn’t cost a thing. And listening to a problem doesn’t mean you have to solve it. Some people just want to get something “off their chest.” Listening to members is one of the tasks that stewards probably do more often than any other.

Of course, listening doesn’t always involve problems—oftentimes members have great ideas about improving their workplaces, good news to share, and even reasons to celebrate. But whatever the reason members talk with their stewards, a steward’s ability to listen and respond appropriately is always a sign of respect.

Listening helps PEF’s members know that their union cares about them!
