Communications Are Key

Graphic showing state-wide networkThe community of PEF members is large and decentralized. Over 54,000 PEF members work in offices, facilities, prisons and other worksites all over New York State. Some members work in highly organized and busy offices in the company of many other members. Still others work in very small and isolated offices, perhaps sharing their work area with just two or three other members.

For many union members, PEF’s offices are far from their workplaces.

The network of stewards is just one way PEF works to communicate clear, consistent messages. PEF also maintains a website, prints a news magazine, and uses phone banks, email and snail mail, conventions, meetings and trainings to communicate with its members.

Stewards work hard to keep up with union news, and because they are on-site, can help members understand union issues and activities.
