Kate Harper, the PEF steward, couldn’t help but notice Sharon’s discomfort. One day, Kate caught Sharon staring absentmindedly out the window in the staff lunch room. She’d barely touched her sandwich. Kate checked her watch; she wasn’t due back to her office for at least twenty minutes. “You’d better eat something,” teased Kate, settling herself at Sharon’s table. “You’ve got to keep your strength up for this job.”
“Oh, hi, Kate,” Sharon said glumly. “I think it’s more like ‘keep your guard up.’”
