Key Strategies
Using Labor/Management meetings to the members’ advantage relies on a few key strategies:
- Be prepared for every meeting.
- Always use some form of record-keeping to keep track of what is said in the meeting.
- Don’t commit to decisions that management offers without consulting the people you represent.
- Be assertive: speak up and let management know what’s on the mind of the union.
- Be positive, and be prepared to negotiate for everything. Anger, frustration, or vindictiveness never contributes to solving problems.
