Never Too Late
“Hey, I’m not trying to be nosy or to be ‘management,’” said Ed, taking a long breath. “Look, I’m not trying to hassle you. We’ve known each other for a long time. I just want you to know that I’m here. I guess if you’re late, you’ve probably got a good reason. I just want to understand you, and see if we can work something out so neither one of us is angry or inconvenienced.”
Carrie looked at Ed, and her expression softened. “I’m sorry, Ed,” she began. “I’m just at my wit’s end. It’s my son, again. Derek’s back in rehab…”
